The Arena at TD Place and Carleton University announced as venues for  Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships

Wheelchair Basketball Canada is pleased to announce two iconic locations, The Arena at TD Place and Carleton University, as the venues for the Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships, scheduled for Sept. 9-19 in Ottawa, Ont.

“We’re thrilled to host the 2026 IWBF World Championships at two of Ottawa’s premier sport venues,” said Cindy Burwell, Ottawa2026 Executive Director. “The Arena at TD Place offers a vibrant downtown setting that will deliver an unforgettable fan experience. Carleton University, home to the Ravens, brings a deep connection to the sport and a proven track record of excellence. Together, these venues will provide an exceptional stage for the world’s best athletes and for Canada to shine on the global stage.”

As Ottawa’s premier destination for live sports, The Arena at TD Place is uniquely suited to bring world-class para sport action to the heart of the nation’s capital. Home to three professional sport teams, this well-established venue provides the ideal backdrop for a high-profile, inclusive international championship.

“We are honoured to welcome the world’s best women’s and men’s wheelchair basketball athletes to TD Place, Lansdowne and Ottawa. There’s nothing quite like the energy of Canadians cheering on their own, and fans from around the world celebrating together at a venue that is built for unforgettable moments,” said Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) CEO Mark Goudie. “Lansdowne is where our community comes together and we can’t wait to see these inspiring athletes show what true determination looks like. It’s going to be an incredible celebration of sport, spirit and inclusion right here on our home court.”

Simultaneous games will run at the Ravens’ Nest at Carleton University, whose rich athletic tradition includes a youth wheelchair basketball program. The week-long competition will be electrified by the students’ energy at this top-tier basketball court.

“Carleton is thrilled to co-host this incredible celebration of sport and spirit,” said Yolana Junco-Pascual, Associate Vice President of Athletics and Recreation at Carleton University. “Welcoming the world’s top wheelchair basketball athletes to Carleton is both an honour and a reflection of our commitment to inclusive excellence. Events like this remind us of sport’s unique ability to connect people, break down barriers, and inspire the next generation. We’re excited to stand alongside our partners and our community in supporting these remarkable competitors and creating lasting memories for everyone involved.”
